Hi all,

As one or two people may know, I bought my pressurised CO2 kit over ebay, from a guy in Germany. The kit is fine and works well, though the cylinder supplied is just a small one - 500g. I have ordered a fire extinguisher from www.thesharpedge.co.uk and that should arrive in the coming week.

While cycling to work on Friday morning, I noticed someone had tipped a load of junk in a quiet road. I jammed on the brakes when I noticed there was a metal gas cylinder in the pile, and I fished it out. It was a BOC branded Beer Gas CO2 cylinder. There is even a little gas left in it.

I'd like to keep it and use it, but don't know where to get it refilled. I know the extinguisher soon to arrive will also do the job, but if I have two cylinders then it will make it easier when it's refill time.

Can anyone help - where can I get this cylinder refilled? I live in London, UK.

Thanks,

Irf.

If its BOC branded then check the BOC website for your local shop. Having your own will mean you dont have to pay rental which will save you loads.

Are you sure this is correct? I rang my nearest BOC depot and they gave me the number of BOC Sureserve, who I'm told will arrange for a guy on a lorry to visit and refill my cylinder. Sounds good, but it also sounds like it will cost a lot! Is this service meant for commercial businesses, like bars and pubs?

I've also spoken with a guy who's a BOC agent for welding gases. He doesn't do CO2, but he was very helpful in terms of information. He said that if I had a BOC cylinder they would only refill it if I had an existing account. Basically if I don't have an account then I shouldn't have the cylinder, and it is likely that they will take it back off me! However he did tell me of a workaround I might like to try.....

I could go to the local BOC depot and open an account with them for the exact same size and type of cylinder that I have. Then I have two cylinders that I can use and they will not be able to tell the difference between which one I bring back for refills. Sounds OK, but probably expensive.

I've had much better luck from the London Beer Gas people. They will deliver to my door a 3.15kg cylinder of CO2 for £20 and £20 deposit. Subsequent refills are £20 delivered. This is better than my FE option because it will come to my door for around the same money.

Any commenst?

Irf.
