I got myself one of these digital pH meters and measured the pH levels in all of my tanks (and ponds) just for interest sake...... Strange thing is .... I'm generally running in the high 8's up to 9.17...... BUT.... only the tanks where I'm using undergravel filters, records below 8....

I've never really been into water chemicals, but just an observation...... can anyone explain.... (average for about 20 tanks currently running and with fish in them is about 8.6).....

I don't know the answer to your question, but have you compared the readings against a liquid test? I find it difficult to read my pH tests and something like this would be great for me if it works and is accurate.
