Hey guys, i've heard about how well beef heart is. I bought some today from the local fishstore. So, i just wanna ask, how long is the storage life in the freezer? How long should i keep it in the freezer? Is there any particular thing i need to know about beef heart when i feed my fish? Thanks a lot!

Why would you want to feed your fish Beef Heart? Its not healthy, its not even remotely natural and nothing like what they would eat in the wild.

its great for growth, i feel it as a treat to my jag and my piranhas, its very messy so dont feed often, once every couple weeks.

i mix my beefheart with fish and spirilina and my fish love it, i make large batches and freeze it, lasts for months, needs to be part of a varied diet though.

Actually, its very high in protein and low in fat and like angelmouse said many famous discus breeders use a mix of beefheart and other things as a staple diet. I know for a fact Jack Watley feeds his beef heart mixture everyday.
Fish eat a lot of stuff in aquaria they wouldnt eat in the wild doesnt mean its not healthy. I feed beefheart once a week to my bigger cichlids and to my angelfish and have seen good results.

A good beefheart mix will get fish to grow quite a bit faster, and depending on the fish could be fed once every other week to daily. If the beefheart you are buying frozen has any white streaks in it don't waste your money, they didn't bother to trim it properly. Trimming beefheart before grinding is tedious, but makes for a high quality food.

A few other aquarists & I get together a couple times a year for a little beefheart party. After trimming out 20 or 30 pounds of heart we double grind it, and add flake food, spinach, multivitamins, garlic, some seafood, and whatever else we think may be good.

Granted, beefheart isn't something that fish are going to eat in the wild, but tropical fish aren't going to eat things like cod or salmon found in a quality flake food either.

its all my discus eat

That's not a good thing beechey, beef heart is a great source of protein and helps fish grow quickly, however over feeding it can lead to issues such as fatty liver disease, which will eventually kill your fish.

How do you know it isnt a beefheart mixture like tolak and myself both descirbed? It is very normal, especially for discus keepers/breeders to feed a mix of beefheart and other foods every day.

they get others things aswell but if they had there way they WOULD only eat the beef heart, and my stuff is the best lol its off a discus breeder i know ..

my discus will jump out of the tank just to get it out of my hands
