there was girl from pets at home at blackheath, told me feather fin cats are tank cleaners and when i ask the maneger why she is lieing about the fish, he said she dont know about the fish.. its look like its eating dirt, so she thought its eating dirt. poor student just trying to help.


we all should know, these r low paid workers, like any other low paid workers.. they r there for money.. if u dont understand these, then its your problam. u can shout and screem but noone going to give rats bum. if u want to know about fish keeping or taking over a country.. we all know where to look for the information.

Exactly what the above says.. I don't care if they're only paid minimum wage, I've only ever been paid minimum wage. But I always do the job I was asked to do.

These people aren't doing their job, which is to sell you good quality stock, with the best possible advice, and with checking on your tank perameters before selling you the fish.

I was speaking to a good member of staff today and told him about last nights cockup with the fish. He was mortified when he arrived this morning to find firemouths in with the rams, cold water loaches in the tropical tanks, and when I told him that the girl had put a male fighter in with an entire school of Emperor Tetra's he was p****d. He's stopping her from working on the delivery ever again.

I think it's simple, if you don't know what you're talking about, find someone that does. Every member of staff in a lfs should know and do this.
It's clearly rediculous.

I'm so not surprised that yet again a thread like this has come up. Only last night I was talking to a person who has 'worked' in aquarium shops and kept marine aquariums for many years...only to proceed to tell me, he only ever checks his tank parameters, salinity etc if something looks wrong, he lost a lion fish and said 'well you know, we didnt know what was wrong but the nitrite was a bit high' as if it was a normal occurence. It really pi**es me off that that this idiotic attitude is responsible for hundreds and thousands of these precious fish being killed in home aquaria.

I could go on forever about the responsibilities of LFS and owners alike, but we've all been there and yes, when you walk into a store you should rightly expect all the correct advice that you need and not some bullcrap, but we don't and the more people that realise this the better.
