I have bought a tropical freshwater tank shown below holding 60 liters of water :) .

I was wondering after it has been completely cycled whether i would be able to house a silver dollar fish in it as i saw them at the fish store and they are beautiful :D - i know they grow big but still is it a possibility?

Thanks - Tom

im afraid a 60 litre tank is too small, that's about 12uk gallons, and SDs grow to about 5", and need to be kept in groups of 5 or more, so they need a tank of 55 gallons at least. :/

Thanks for the help :( - thought i could as in the store one was on it's own (an adult of about that size) in a similar sized tank to mine - the babies were in a larger group in another similarly sized tank!

don't compare home tanks to fish store tanks size wise. the ones at fish stores are there simply as temporary holding tanks and won't be a forever home.

there are other options for your tank though, don't despair. as it's a 12 gallon, don't go for any fish that grows over 3" ideally.

have you seen any other fish you like?

Yes i do like fish such as the Black Mollies and other varieties of similar proportions.

I'm just stuck on finding something that looks a little more prominent but is suitable for a tank of my size.

How about a (forgive me if i'm wrong in the name) Chinese Fighter - it was red with a large wavy dorsal fin and tail fins?

The description said one per tank is this a viable option?

Thanks

you mean a siamese fighting fish, aka a betta
they're awesome fish (i have 3!) but tend to be quite touchy, aggressive and sensitive to tank mates. and it's 1 betta per tank.

you could have 1 betta and 4-5 corys for the bottom?
other mid-swimmers depend on the betta, fish like barbs and some tetras will nip the long fins, and brightly coloured fish may get targeted by the betta. depends on the bettas temperament!

they're excellent beginner fish though, bettas.

A Betta fish would go great in a 10 gallon, we have one with two ADFs

Or, you can look into a Dwarf Gourami :)

Here's our dominant one in the 30 gallon

A Kuhli loach or two would be an excellent asset to your tank due to there constant activity and movement they are ace fish i will post pics of my 2 as soon as poss mine are called Willy n Billy lol :p:p
