So yesterday since it was a really nice day (It's winter so these days are not too common) I went out to find some driftwood.
Here's a picture of the view:

I'll have to add pictures in the comments, because the server's giving me an error when I try to add a second photo. Anyway, this piece I found was really neat, just what I was after. I've boiled it and scraped bits of with a knife, it's currently soaking in my tank. Does it look like it'll be safe? Im a compete noob with this sort of stuff. It still has some areas with bark? On it.

Here's the piece.

Nice, wish i could find stuff like that here, and be permitted to take it if i did lol

It should be fine to use, the amount of salt it may leach out will be negligible in a large tank

Thank you :) Im just worried about the small amount of stuff thats not been removed from the wood, the darker stuff. Maybe im paranoid. Cant be too careful

i clean my drift wood in bleach dilluted hot water and leave to soak.then rinse it few times in cold water,if out of water it still smells of the bleach leave it soaking in cold water.keep doing till no smell.never had any problems this way.

nice drift wood by the way, like the twists in it.

Thanks very much! Also have a piece that looks like an animal skull, might not use that piece though, however it is very cool!

Love the wood but am a glutton for wood as my tank is all wood :) can you not boil the wood or have you not anything big enough to put it in to.

Nah i'm just going to buy wood from a pet shop so it'll sink and be safe right away :)

you still need to clean it from the shop or it stains the water, sorry!

Dont buy bogwood your head will be turned with loads of small wood particles & loads of tanin which will take months and months to seep out maybe even a year or so,if you go for redmoor or mopani you will get very little tanin seeping, what i did with my redmoor and mopani was to give it a good blast with the pressure washer it removes like bits of bark etc.:)

Yep, knew that already...was just meaning I wouldnt have to put loads of effort into cleaning and scrubbing and boiling and trying to get every piece of bark off. I don't mind the tannin look and wont have fish for ages, so i'll be fine anyway.

Okay, even thought it's had mould growing on it (It's been outside for a couple of weeks now) Would you suggest I still use it?

Just give it a scrub with hot water and a hard brush
