Okay setting up my breeding room hehe for the winter and getting ready to order some supplies for live food, I have a major question and concern, I normally use just normal bbs the stuff I need to wait 24hours for it to hatch. With this I am gaurenteed that many fish will eat it especially Betta's because they need to see the food moving to eat it(not totally true). Can the decrypts be hatched where the bbs actually swim or are they just a put in the tank and let hydrate to feed to the fish? Can I hatch them to be real bbs or are they already dead? I am looking in this route only because it seems alot less time consuming and hastle free live food to takecare of

Okay the second part ~ I am looking at making egg yolk food for fry, here is what I normally do I would make the yolk and take bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp with some spinach (greens) and other stuff grind it all up so I could get natural vitamins to my fish :). Anyone have an easier way where I can just do egg yolk and get some sort of drops for vitamins or is this not recommended? Am I actually making a good food for fry? Mainly betta's this winter wife and I are focusing on :)

Any suggestions? I already have vinager eals, MicroWorms I am against as fry food for many reasons

Some decaps are alive and others are not. Alive Decaps do not have a long "self-life" though, which is why I personally decided not to use them.
I get all my BS cysts at brineshrimpdirect.
I've actually specifically called them about decaps before.

This, for example, is live Decaps: http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/c1/c2/Shell-Free-E-Z-Egg-c202.html

These, however, are not alive: http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/c1/c2/Decapsulated-Non-HatchingBrine-Shrimp-Eggs-c21.html

It's also possible (and supposedly relatively easy) to decap your own BBS, but I have no experience there.
See here for good tutorial if interested: http://saltlakebrineshrimp.com/decapsulating-brine-shrimp/

Very good video on decapsulated brine shrimp only issue Idon't like is the bleach and that would be extra work and still needs 24 hours to hatch out like regular, I guess there is a benefit of having no shells left over. I think I should just stick to my normal method using the regular eggs, sounds like its less work than this. Thats a really good example of non hatch and haching decaps i am happy I actually asked instead of ending up with dead fry I couldn't feed. I guess the shelf life is a downer as well to the decaps, and the shelf life to regular is alot better. I think the shelf live is the major part here as I like to stalk in bulk. Brineshrimp direct is probably one of the best sources, although expensive for shipping I think is well worth it in the end. Thanks for the links :) especially the video its good information if I ever decide to go that way :)

Now just to figure out the egg yolk mix this year, hoping someone comes along with experience in doing this.

Decapsulated Brine Shrimp Eggs can be fed as they are, IMO its less hassle than hatching them, but fry it may not entice the fry as much. Seen as they dont move.

Egg Yolk, very messy. A good tip is to crush it then pop it into a cotton hankerchief and let it float in the fry tank. It will slowly release the yolk.

Infusoria can be fed through an Apple Snails waste, but this should not be add until the eggs ahve hatched.

Don't like snails ewwww.....

egg yolk is messy but probably one of the best foods as a alternative for them, this gives an oportunity intoduce flake etc to them in the mixture, is where I am wondering if there is such thing as vitamins natural for fish that can be added in that will help with growth and colour of them.

Best method I have used is crush it or make it into a powder freeze for easy storage and then unfreeze little at a time when needed and use a airstone to feed to them, smush the airstone into the mixture and put it in the tank. This is the best method I have found so far, not only that I can see them come up to feed and can tell what ones need to be culled

That does sound quite good actually! :good:

Just not sure about vitamins yet, a homemade recipe hehe, always have done just regular fish foods with the mix for natural looking fish.. The only thing that scares me is getting hormoned fish going any other route

I like the airstone idea, nice one! :good: I've used liquid childrens vitamins on everything from cichlid pellets to beefheart mix, never had a problem. With decaps that need to be reconstituted I don't see a problem with adding a drop of liquid vitamin & waiting for it to soak in.

Gonna have to try the childrens vitamins, that sounds like a good idea :)
