I just got some fine looking plants at my LFS. They came planted in a foam-like substrate in a plastic "wire" pot. They told me to plant them pot and all in the sand. Is this correct? When planting potted plants in the garden, the roots always do better out of the pot; but is aquarium gardening different? Thanks.

I would take them out of the pots and remove the wool carefully so as not to damage any roots and if possible split the bunches up a bit before planting.

Take them out of the pot and carefully tease the wool away from the roots. You may be able to split the plant into bunches of stems or a number if seperate plants. Go back to said LFS and deal them a good telling off!

They may be stem cuttings and not have roots though, so you might find it difficult to plant them. Might need to use a bit of plant weight to hold it down and into the gravel if you find you have problems :)
