do you suggest bare bottom or gravel for a guppy tank?what are the benefits of each?

For guppies, you could do either. Bare bottom tanks are super easy to clean, particularly beneficial for messy fish (which does not include the guppy), but they can be boring and you can't plant much in a bare bottom tank.

Gravel is more aesthetically pleasing. Obviously it benefits plants. Easy to clean with a vacuum. Also holds a layer of nitrifying bacteria in a cycled tank.

id suggest a bare bottom for a fry tank, but if its not one, than a substrance is better IMO

Bare bottom tanks can make fish more skittish and stresses them.

just don't use a light colour substrate, I have sand in my guppy tank, I have to suck the waste out every 2 days they are so messy !!!!!!
