1. I've heard it's very feasible. Anyone disagree, and think I should put a "weekend block" in?... I'll be away from Friday morning until Monday evening.

2. Is it worth putting the lights on a timer (I have one here somewhere!), or will it not matter much? Surely, it's best for the plants if I do?

Yep, the fish will be fine without feeding. In my experience those weekend blocks do little more than dissolve yuckily in the tank anyway.

Also, yes for the timer. I have my lights on a timer anyway even when I'm home One less thing to remember each day

Agreed with sun..........feed them on the morning of your departure and feed them on your return....make sure all your filters and heaters are running smoothly and for the weekend.....no worries.
