I got an almost full size banded severum yesterday. He hasn't touched any food that is put in the tank. I've tried feeding him Cichlid pellets and flakes. Should I try something else? Maybe it will take him a few days to start eating? Needless to say, he was dropped by the fish guy at the store and he jumped out of the tank last night. (While moving him to another tank)

Any advice?:dunno:

Thanks

If you really want him to eat you can try fresh foods, like frozen or freezdried krill or blood worms, and veggies like peas and zucchini and leaf lettuces.

If you really want him to eat what you want him to eat, then just keep feeding him the pellets and flakes, and remove what he doesn't eat after a few minutes. Do this every day and he'll come around. You don't need to worry about him starving to death during this process, he can go weeks without food with no affect on his health.

Freddyk...you were right! I picked up some frozed food tonight. I got a varaity pack of bloodworms, shrimp and veg. It's the "drops" type that you just put in the tank. The Severum went mad over it!
How ofter do I feed him this kind of food? Everyday? How many "drops" do I give him? I gave him two tonight. He ate the whole thing....in one bite!

THANKS!

If it were me I'd do my second recommendation and get him eating the pellets. I'm a big advocate of fresh foods, but having pellets as a portion of the diet is a good idea to make sure he's getting all he needs. Once he starts eating them you should find that he'll continue taking them even after re-introducing the fresh stuff.

If you really want your severum to have a good meal, buy some live plants
they will be gone before you know it

just give him time. my severum didnt eat teh first 3-4 days but hes the biggest pig ever now. hell eat anything i put in the tank
