Balloon Rams

my golden males have really long frontfins and the are brighter in colour than the females - show bright blue on back of body

i sold my friend some (i work at an LFS) and i went along with what my manager said, that the males have the more elongated caudal fins and the front rays of the dorsal are taller, but all of them look quite similar and its difficult to tell with the gold ones

Look at the black splodge on the side of the Ram, (blue only) If there is blue spangling in and around it then the fish is female, if there isn't any the fish is Male

Dominant females also have pink abdomens

I agree about the spots. Also the males have a 2 longer spikes on the dorsel fin. It's pretty much the same as sexing other rams. I had two males once. I would not recomend 2 males they were not friends.

the most accurate way is by the belly and how far the anal fins go past the base of the tail, with males the anal fins pass the very base of the tail.

in most LFs's they come in young and 9 times out of 10 are impossible to sex
