Balloon Molly

hi all
just put my ballon mollie in the trap 30 mins ago
turned off lights and covered tank with large towel so be darker
ive just peeped and the trap is full of fry
just curious how many fry to expect
shes huge

I can never tell with a balloon molly. Each fish is hard for a traditional fish keeper like me to judge. On average, mollies will drop from about 30 to 50 fry. If you watch your female for a steady 15 minutes and new fry do not appear, she is probably done. The actual count will depend a lot on the age and maturity of the female and is difficult to predict.

she had between 50-60 fry
i put her in hospital tank for a rest after birthing shes very lively this morning
so will probably rejoin her tank friends later today
was very surprised by the ammount of fry she had as ive never kept balloon mollies before

ive just setup a new tank its a 68 litre
had a spare fluval in another tank so put that in with water safe and gotta get some plants later
wont be adding any fishes to tank though for a good few weeks
but i have around 200 new fry now and the tanks ive got them in isnt large enough to grow them in im then going to part with them at a few months old before they reach adult size
what do you first feed yours on
ive made the egg yolk cubes which i use with 100ml of water and a spray bottle but the older ones are on the liquifry 3 baby plus fry growth food
the egg yolks ok but contaminates water very quicky
however i do syphon off the uneaten food from bottom of tank every two days
wow 102 thought my molly had a huge ammount at 60
