Fishaholic
Hey all,
As I posted earlier, I bought way too many fish for my tank. I decided, since I had the room and the money, to just get another tank and move half the fish on over. So far both tanks seem fine, though two more fish died in the transiton (meaning 5 total casualties out of 40 animals orignally. I got some gravel and both should cycle fairly soon...but I'm not sure I divided the fish right. Here's the breakdown.
Old tank (20 gallon, light-colored coarse gravel, heavily planted)
6 Guppies (both females are pregnant)
6 Tiger barbs
1 Dwarf African Frog
1 Black Mystery Snail
1 Bamboo Shrimp (will be moved to new tank when it's established and there is more detritus in the water)
numerous little snails
New Tank (20 gallon, fine black gravel, fairly lightly planted)
5 Zebra Danios
6 Neons
6 Glowlights
2 Corys
I'm not planning on adding any fish to either tank until they finish cycling. I will add an Otto and possibly a second DAF to Tank one, but I think it's pretty much done, considering it will have an ongoing livebearer population.
However, it's clear after reading more I should pick up an extra Zebra Danio, four more Corys (do they need to be the same species?) and something to eat the algae in that tank too when it's established (I'm thinking a Siamese Algae eater). Once all of that is added (plus the bamboo shrimp, it seems like the stress on that tank will be pretty big.
So, I'm wondering if I should move the Glowlights back into Tank One? Or maybe put all the Tetras in tank one and move the Tiger Barbs to tank two? Only thnk I'm married to is keeping the gupppies where they are (since the fry may survive with the huge amount of cover) and keeping the zebras in the other tank as a counter balance.
