how do i tell if mine are male of female

Im not sure you can. I have not heard of being able too. Do a bit of looking around and you may find out.

When full grown females are larger and have a rounder shape to the belly, juviniles cannot be positively sexed from external characteristics.

Just to add, full grown in the case of Bala's will be over 12"/300mm.

how long do they take to grow to thgat size??

ive had mine for about 6 months and they're only about 3 inchs each

Balas should be full grown in 4 to 5 years but this is dependent on tank size, diet and water quallity.
