My Bala/Silver shark has outgrown my tank - now I'm living in the city I have a better chance of finding him a new home. He's around 5-6 years old, nearly 8 inches long, and not at all aggressive. Is he actually worth anything/should I ask anything for him? Or will I be lucky to just give him away? I don't want him going anywhere unless I'm sure he's going to a much larger tank. I live in Melbourne, Australia, if that makes any difference.
Here he is

I did ask at my local fish store if they would take him - they said yes, but the tank they would keep him in was the same size as my own, so not really an improvement for him.

Nice Bala you have there :) a fish is worth as much as someone will pay. What I mean its it's hard to put a price on them as the prices can vary so much. My friend sold his 5 Bala's to a LFS for £15 each. The Bala itself was around 10 inches. He may have got more for it if he sold it privately but then it would also of taken a lot longer to sell as not many people have tanks big enough for them. As you will probably know they should be in groups of at least 6 but preferably around 10 and need tanks of 12ft x 3 x 3.

If I was to give you just a rough answer then £10-15 would be reasonable. Hope you find a nice home for him/her :good:

hard to say as fish value varies so greatly, all i can say is here in canada a fish like that would probably sell for about $40-$50 canadian dollars at a store (which is pretty much the same value as USD right now), i have no idea how much that is in your currency, if you give fish to a store here (trade them in) they normally give you 50% of the selling value in store credit

how big is your tank? this might be a good excuse to buy another one :)
