My favourtie fish,my bala shark died! He was an active fish, swimming th ewhole length of the tank and eating healthily. But last night i noticed that one of my guppies was sorta nipping at his actual body. I discovered seeing a loss of scales in an area. He looked as though he had a sorta large white spot on his head(not hairy like a fungus but that sorta size).
I woke up this morning to find him lying on a pot on his side. I was so disheartened. Ive had this fish since i started my fish experience. I took my eye off him for a second and he was gone. I was looking everywhere, by the bogwood,by the airstone,up nder the duckweed etc. THen i saw him by the filter where the water goes in. He was upside down but breathing. SO i put my breeding trap in to help him recover. SO i went to catch him with the net but he swam away and then went bac upside down where i then caught him and put him in there.
I was dreading the news as i got in my mums car after school. SHe said eh died....
SO what could it have been. The loss of scale exsposing him to bacteria? Or could it be stress from seeing a betta in a tank(as i moved it in front of his tank last night)? I cant think of anything else... :-(

Bye Syn :byebye:

I think the temps 26 degrees celcius and the pH is 8 (cant get it any lower  )but they all seem fine with that; its more about keeping it stable isnt it... Ill go up and do the testing now :good:

u could get it lower with a water change. i think the ph could of killed the bala shark because 7 is max.

If it was the pH he would have died AGES ago as thats the pH hes been living in for a year!

thu said there was a white spot on his head, i am no expert but it could be:

Hole In The Head Hexamita Hole in head is a very serious disease that warrants prompt treatment. Large cichlids such as Oscars, discus, and pikes are very susceptible to this disease. Hole in head, believe it or not, is an intestinal tract infection.
Symptoms: Holes in the head area, ulcerations on the body, loss of appetite
Treatment: A recommended treatment is Hex-A-Ex, although I am not speaking from personal experience. Contact your local fish/pet store or the forum for more info.
Example:

u can kind of see the white spot on the example fish

Mmmm i dunno...maybe but i dont think it was a 'hole',more like and ulcer sorta thing. Thanks for the help anyways!!!!!!!
