Hey all,

I have an established community tank and am looking for what fish to add next, my setup is:

Juwel Rekord 800 110L Tank
Juwel Filter Bioflow Super
Juwel 100 Watt Heater
Tetra APS 100 Pump with 4" Air Stone

My current stocking:

4 x Glowlight Tetras
4 x Neon Tetras
2 x Flame Red Dwarf Gouramis
1 x Lyretail Sailfin Molly
7 x Molly Fry
2 x Tiger Shrimp

The Molly fry will be going to my LFS soon as they have agreed to take them off me as i don't want my tank to be overrun with them.

My question is...I really like the look of the Badis badis and have read that they eat small shrimp as part of their diet, i currently have 2 Tiger Shrimp in my setup and was just checking that these Badis won't consider them as food?

Does anyone currently have any of these stocked with small shrimp? My Tiger's are about an inch long and won't be growing much more.

Thanks

I keep two scarlet badis (Dario dario) in my tank just to keep the shrimp population down. It works like a charm. The scarlet badis is a nano fish and no harm to the adult shrimp. However, larger species like badis badis which grows to about 2.5 inches, is a threat. They are a hunter species and spend their day looking for food with worms and small crustaceans being their main diet.

Hi tcamos, thanks for your response.

That's exactly what i was hoping NOT to hear, that's a shame as i sort of had my heart set on them, glad i asked the question.

I do really like the Scarlet Badis, but wanted something a bit larger as most of my stocking are relatively small, if i was to go with Scarlet Badis, how many would you recommend keeping in a community tank?

Thanks

Badis badis is also a color changing fish which makes them quite interesting to own. Though they generally go for smaller prey, tiny stuff like mentioned above, they will take off eyes and legs from larger shrimp when they can.

Really, it's a fish worth setting up a second tank for. A male and 4-5 females in a 20 gallon would be nice and they are known to breed frequently.

The scarlet is a tiny fish but interesting. I have two males in a 10 gallon. They each take half and will circle each other when they meet, do a little "I'm the boss" dance and move on. If I had females I would have just one male because aggression increases with breeding behavior.
