Ok. One of my bettas, Lug, who has a gill and spine deformity, has developed some very alarming symptoms overnight. He is in a 5 gallon filtered Eclipse Corner tank. I changed everyone's water - 100% - two days ago, and everyone else is doing perfectly allright. Since they all get the same temp water and same "additives" (ie. Dechlorinator, small amount of aquarium salt, Stress Coat), and no one else is ill, I'm thinking it is an issue with the fish, not the water quality. The only tests I have on hand right now is Ammonia, which is 0.
Anyways, I noticed yesterday that Lug was not as enthusastic about food as usual, but he still ate so I thought nothing of it. This morning, however, something is very off. I found him near the surface, just drifting along weakly. Upon closer inspection, I found that his belly was bloated, a few scales on his side were ripped back (NOT pineconing, it looks like he skinned about 3 scales off), there was a knick on his pectoral fin... and all of his fins are in tatters, like a rapid, overnight case of fin rot. His color is horrible, and he has stress stripes, something I don't usually even see in my males.
What could this be? Parasites? Bacterial outburst? It has been VERY hot here, so despite my careful monitoring, I suppose a temp spike overnight could have done something? I freaking out trying to figure out what on earth to do with him. He looks very poor.
What I'm going to TRY, in case it is the water, is moving him into a smaller, shallow tank so he can reach the surface easily. I'll put a lot of plants in so he is not stressed and can "sit" on them if he needs to for air. I plan on adding stress coat, stress guard, dechlorinator, a medicinal amount of aquarium salt, and, depending on any advice a get here, maybe anti-bacterials or an anti-parasite?
Please do give your input if possible. I'm rinsing the tank he is to be in thoroughly as we speak.

He sounds bad alot of bacteria infections here, once they mount up not a good sign sorry, best to just keep a close eye on him.

Ungh. I wonder what would have caused it; I've been good on water changes, and everyone else seems to be doing fine. It was such an overnight thing, too.

Well, while he was in the cup for the water change, he started going on his side. He's in the new water now, but he's swimming erratically, tipping over, etc. so I'm fairly sure he's dying even though his color looks better. I put some anti-bacterials in the water as well as aquarium salt, but this doesn't sound good :(

Sorry yes he's is dying not nice, how long as he has he spine deformity, as he would die from that eventually.

Ever since I got him, but that was only back in last september. His gills are deformed too, and he had trouble keeping weight, but this is all so odd as he was perfectly healthy yesterday morning. I've only had one betta come back from the edge like this, I don't think I'll be that lucky twice.

I was just holding him up so he can get his head out of the water to breathe. He can't right himself at all. For now, he's resting on a plant at the water's surface. I just hope he goes quick.

:(

He's done well to stay alive this long with the deformities sounds like his body has had enough and his immune system has shut down, sorry bless him.

Whoooaaa...ok.
That little knick with a few missing scales on his side?
Its widening... I think his side is going to split open or something!
Could he have some kind of parasite in there? If it gets any worse, I'm euthanizing right away. I'm not going to let him pop open THEN die.

If he does have a parasite on top, he's not going to make it, as the illnessses are mounting up, his organs are failing, it might be the fluid inside making him look like he's going to burst open.

Lug has died :-(

It turned out it wasn't a rupture, but his scales were peeling back and falling off, like he was rotting alive or something Very terrible.
I'm a little concerned, because early in his life, he showed signs of TB (deformed gills, fins, and spine, unexplained poor weight, bulging eyes, and tremor while swimming). He got better, so I assumed it was something else, but I'm reading that TB does not manifest itself obviously unless the fish is under some kind of distress that causes it to succumb to the disease. The fin loss, scale loss/sores, paleness, etc. are all symptoms as well. Is it possible that something stressed him out and he died of the TB, or am I paranoid and he was just a weak fish when I bought him and eventually died of a bacterial infection?

Most of the symtoms seem to fit with fish tb, just keep an eye on the other fish, and do some water changes, good luck.

He's been completely isolated from other fish, and I use different cups/siphons/etc. for all of my fish, so they SHOULD be safe. I'll keep an eye out though. Thanks ^^
