I have a community tank of tropical fish & in that tank was my favorite fish, my betta. As ususal bettas don't like to eat flakes so i would feed my betta tropical pellets. One day my sister put fish from her fish sandwich in the tank and he tore it up. :hyper: Not a trace of it anywhere. So when i went to feed it pellets they suddenly weren't good enough anymore. So for the while being i fed it food from my refridgerator (shrimp, fish, bread) sparingly 3 times a week. Betta enjoyed it  and was fine for weeks.:fish: So when i fed it bloodworms by Tetra, betta wasn't looking so good.:dunno: The next day his head had a patch on it, swollen belly, swollen gill, losing color, wouldn't swim as much, started to pine cone near swollen gill, and only one working fin (out of the 2 on the side of his face). I put him in a tank of his own that had bettamax but betta didn't make it. Do you think it was the bloodworms?

no..sounds like a combination of bacterial infections. The pineconing would be dropsy. The biggest reason not to feed certain foods, is they contaminate the tank very fast. Even foods that are fed to bettas , like liver, beef heart, etc, have to be done right before a water change, so the water does not become fouled. If the fish that was fed was not baked or broiled, then it had grease on it, which did nothing to help the water.

:hi: to the forum. Introduce yourself in the newbie section.

I agree with the "feed before water changes" bit. Have you been doing water tests and changes?

If you have the time, feed bloodworms worm by worm. Little left to mess up the tank if you do it that way.
