Well,

My Angels aren't exactly nice towards eachother, i'm guessing it's due to the size of the tank (only 23ish US gallons). As some of you may know already one of them is a definite female. The female isn't as big as the other and the other is the "head" of the tank. After the other ate the eggs of the female they really haven't been themselves. They like to hit eachother, and i've seen them lip lock before. Do you think this is pairing behavior or agression? It isn't all that bad, there scales don't look damaged and no torn fins. Do you think that they are pairing up? Do they still have a chance of paring up?

Thanks,

DL

Normal behavior, some ripped fins & torn scales are to be expected from time to time. I used to have a pair that would lip lock every morning when I would turn on the lights.

Thanks!

Also, with the big one sometimes before he goes to attack the female he gets this small black circle right behind his eye. I know they have stress bars, but i'm wondering if this is like an agression type thing instead of a stress type.

It's common for most fish to color up more when breeding, especially cichlids.

I have a 20us gallon tall tank, which has an aggressive angel in it at the moment. i'm going to transfer all the other fish out of the tank into another one i just bought and wanted to get another angel for the tank. I was just wondering whether this new angel would be a focus of aggression or affection?

is there any way to sex angels cause i would love to have them pair up if possible. should i get another aggressive angel fish or a more docile one? i really don't know how their compatibility works, if i were to get one it would probably be much smaller than the addressive one in the tank at the moment - would that be a problem?

If the angel is aggressive there is a chance it will be aggresive towaerds another angel. Angels are cichlids, anyone dealing with cichlids should at least have a divider, if not a spare tank. These are needed for dealing with aggressive fish.

If you want to try adding a second angel remove the existing angel, and keep put in a bucket or spare tank. Rearrange the tank, this removes old territories. Add the new angel & let it settle in for a couple of hours. Add the first angel and keep a good watch on them, with the divider ready.

The only way to reliably sex angels is to observe them when thay are actually spawning.

i've got a few spare tanks - at least i will have when i get round to buying a new angelfish - so that shouldn't be a problem.

When i put it into the tank its in now with a pair of rams, he soon took over the tank and the rams were cowerin in the corners and behind bog wood. would it be advisable to go for another aggressive angel or a docile one? or perhaps a docile, bigger angel if possible? i'll definetly rescape the tank and keep the other angel in a different tank by himself for a few days if that would help?

at the moment he doens't seem to have any territory as he always swims in the open water, my scape is pretty low for a 22" tall tank and i took out a lot of the decore cause i was always paniced that my rams had died - cause i couldn't see them.
