Hahaha me too, wanted black but went for blue since blue brings out the green in plants

I got a plain black background from my lfs for my new tank and I'm really happy with it.

All I did was moisten the exterior glass and position the background,

Olive oil works great too, smooth the air bubbles away using a credit card or a straight window scraper

I use black card attached with double sided tape, it's cheaper than the backgrounds made for aquariums, & has a matt finish

I also like to hedge my bets so I got a reversible blue background with the black on the other side.

I would never paint anything permanent on any of my tanks.....................

Lately I've been looking at a water background that's about $8 for the 36 gallon. I already have that one on my 10 gallon & it makes a world of difference. It blends with the bubbler nicely without pictures of fake plants like what I have on my son's 20 gallon.

Here's a link for an underwater background that I plan to get. It looks more natural than plain blue or plain black in my opinion. As a bonus it comes with a creepy looking option on the other side:

Since this 36 gallon tank is located in the corner of my master bedroom it will look like the water goes on well after the glass...............at least that's my plan anyway.

Thanks. I will post pics if/when I change them out. I've always thought of a tank as a window to an underwater world & that means it shouyld appear to be an infinete window not limited to the actual area of the tank.
