Hi, I've never been a fan of backgrounds for my tanks but I found one lying about that fits a tank.

Its cellotaped to the top and bottom of the tank/hood but it isn't very easy to see through the tank. Some water ran down the back of the tank whilst I was fitting the background and as the water is giving it a good connection with the glass it makes it very bright/vibrant (The way I want it to look)

I've got a pic to show what I mean:

And a close-up:

Is there another way to get this effect without me putting water on the glass? Surely that wouldn't be very hygienic?

vasline-- rub on glass.....

On the outside of the tank, obviously. LOL

edit: i dont like those backgrounds at all for exactly that reason. I painted the back of my tank. It looks great. :good:

I just not a fan of picture background as most are not that nice. but each to there own.

the vasaline will work but in time will possibley dry out. you could try postit glue (Better than . That applys well shouldn't leave any more of a pattern than vasalene and as it drys it won't matter. also easy to remove if needed to.

my tanks infront of a cookie dough(Brown) wall, so i havent got a background

My brother swears by the vasaline trick!!

normal emulsion will do. Takes about 3 coats to get a nice even and uniform black out with no gaps.

Its a lot easier if you do this before the tank if filled so can place it on its side to stop the paint from running. Its also easy to remove normal emulsion if you get board with it simply by giving it a gentle scrape.
