So, Am about to undergo a substrate change and I thought I'd share a tip. Tesco do these plastic boxes for cheap, My 80L one was 8.50. I remove my fish for this so filling the 80L, add heater and filter and you got yourself a temp fish tank.

I think its ace to have a look at these cause they don't always have them in stock. :p

Yes neat idea and I know that some people have successfully used these sort of containers.  However, a word of warning, I was also recently told of a few incidences whereby the plastic had leached and the fish all perished, so I was advised to always get food grade ones.  Hate to scare you, but would also hate you to loose your fish.  Of course the ones that people lost their fish in may have been cheaper versions and the plastic therefore was not safe, not sure with these ones to be able to comment.  One poor guy apparently lost all of his Marine fish when moving them from one room to another using a plastic container :(

It will only leach long term, Pretty much all plastic does. Am speaking no longer than a day.

I killed a few fish once upon a time in plastic storage boxes and only used them for an hour or two so would say keep a close eye on them

I used that 23L one ontop of the 80L for a entire day and got nothing at all. Is why I bought another one.

Good to know, hopefully these boxes are the "safe" ones.

Hi only going by my own experience , but I used these boxes back in december when I swapped over to a bigger tank but I bought mine from the range slighly cheaper all was good with my fish but it was only for a couplke of hours and had heater and airstone in there and all fish were ok . I gave the boxes really good wash first in tank water , then filled with tank water , did keep an eye on fish.

This will sound really odd, but if you put your tongue on the plastic for a few seconds, any bitter taste means it's not safe.

I have actually done this in shops
