At the moment I have no background on my tank, just sitting by the off white wall. Does having a back ground make any difference to the fish or is it just a cosmetic thing? I know having a nice back ground will make a massive impact of the visual look of the tank but would this benefit the fish at all?

all thoughts and views are welcome, so what do you think?

A background can make the fishes feel more secure within their living space - just as plants other decorations do the same

Yes, as said, a background can make the fish feel much safer. When I set up my tank, I had a few Platys to begin with and all they did was hide under some bogwood, I added a dark background and they started to some out more not long after, and at first hung out at the back.

I've been wondering about the same thing. Does a black background make them feel more secure or is a white background better?

I would assume a darker background would feel more secure. I also think darker looks better, but that justs aesthetics.

thank's for that, i put a background on last night and as 'Orodreth' said the fish have come out more even my plec, which i've only had for a few days? thank's for your help :good:
