u may have to keep him. when a bird is raised by humans it doesnt learn things it needs to no and might no learn to fly. good luck with the little guy
Easiest way to teach them to fly if you want to keep them is to buy a nature dvd and make them watch it on silent :p

Other than that let him learn to jump off a table and he will learn to use his wings by instinct (Like a human puts their hands out when falling over).

yeah that would be a good way.
ive also heard that people will get a bird hand puppet and use it for feeding, teaching it to fly and use it for every thing else.

I used to teach baby birds to find their own food best I could,I'd take them outside, put whatever they ate in the grass or sort of hid it and kept pointing to it and feeding it to them until they caught on to go fetch it themselves. I had a WHOLE nest of sparrows to raise once when my aunt's cat tore a nest apart. I had them all in a ten gallon tank with perches and pine shavings on the bottom. The day I released them they hung around the house peeping at me from the tree making me sad. :*) I've raised robins, blackbirds, starlings and a cardinal. I had a baby wren once my cat stole from a nest, broght it to me,and it died from his bite. :-( Stinkin cat. :sly:

Heather I had a feeling you had raised baby birds... I know that you're just like me in that regard.

As keeping wild birds in your house is illegal without a licence (oops broke the law there for a day... hehe), we are not keeping him. In fact, I just let him go. :/ Last night as I opened the lid to feed him, he FLEW out!! Then my old lady cat had a youthful moment and caught him! Double  !! It was awful, but I got her off him asap, and he was fine after I caught him. This morning as I was going to feed him for the second time though, he started to try and fly out of the box. There was no way I could feed him without lifting the lid, and if I can't feed him, it won't do much good to keep him! Anyways, then he really started freaking out, as he was out of shock and realized what was happening now - jumping all around, trying to knock the lid off, etc. I was afraid he was really going to hurt himself, so let him go. He flew away with no problem, and I hope he will be able to forage on his own.

Good luck little birdy. :byebye:

He should be allright, you didn't have him too long to tame him. Most of mine got tame and that is HARD to break. You have to scare the piss out of them to get them not to trust you anymore and it breaks your heart. :-(

You did a good job. He's alive because of you. :)

i had a pet bird once it was a bluejay and i found him as a chick raised him and he lived in my drawer under my bed and was as friendly as can be and woke me up every morning at 6 for breakfast and was chirping all the time but once he was in his drawer and i closed it he was quiet he could fly around and only pooped in his drawer (with newspaper in it) and he perched on my finger like that and i had him about a year then we went camping and he came as usal riding in the motorhome and the people in the next campsite let off fireworks and he had a heart attck and died :byebye: :( he was a great pet tho

I found a baby sparrow yesterday. It doesn't have any feathers and is very small but it has stayed alive 24 hours now. I am syringe feeding it. I have it on a heating pad in a shoe box. I am very scared for it and am trying my best to save it. Has anyone saved one without feathers yet or am I fighting a loosing battle? Cathy

Thank you so much Aquarius. That was a much needed helpful sight. Seems like I am going along the right road with this bird but it is so small. thank you. Cathy

Sorrel is the person to ask about rehab of baby birds, I read a post where she said that is what she does.

Thanks for adding that treefrog, I think I'm going to add that to my signature as well. When I joined this forum, I never guessed so many of us would have baby birds too!
