Hi,

I put some plants in my new tank about 2 weeks ago. I have put no other living things in there yet. Today I noticed these tiny lil snail looking things in there. I can't get a good pic of them as they are very tiny but I think they are snails. Could I have bought plants with snail eggs in them? Should I worry about getting rid of them? I don't mind some snails (I have one Mystery Snail in my other tank) but I have no clue what they are or if they will eat my plants..
Do you think that when I put my goldfish in the new tank they will eat the baby snails?
Thank you very much.

Edited to try to add a picture. Sorry it is such a bad pic. My camera is old and doesn't take very good pics of small, up close objects...

nothing much to worry abot. There would have been some jelly like eggs on one of the plants. If you don't want them, squish em. Otherwise leave them be and they will pick up excess food and algae. If there is nothing for them to eat they will eat plants. You can feed them on bits of lettuce or cucumber, etc.

Thanx so much! I hope they are Mystery Snails :good: as I was planning on getting more (I have one in my other tank) when this tank is up and running. Guess I got them a lil sooner than expected. ;0)
Thanx again for the reply..

I got those once from a Java Fern plant at PetSmart. You never see the snails when you buy plants. They aren't harmful. Some of your fish will even eat them. However, they do multiply quickly. Next time you buy any plants wash them off real good with a solution of water and aquarium salt.

Thanx so much. I actually just put a java fern in there, wonder if that is where they came from.

Out of curiousity, I put a few of the baby snails in my other tank just to see what my fish would do and they ate them practically b4 I could even get them out of the net. I think once I put my fish in the new tank they will take care of most of the snails. I would like a few but I don't want a ton of them.
Also, next time I plan on adding any more plants I will def. be cleaning them first!
Thanx again!

Umm well pond snails mate like crazy! I had 5 to begin, then turned into 25 a month later. Then 75 two moths later. I got rid of them and put them in a local pond.

If you want snails go for apple snails, they cannot breed without a m/f, so you won't be infested with snails. But they do grow 50x bigger than the size of a ramshorn.
Not my cup of tea but alot of people on here like them.
