I have some Platy fry in my tank. I didn't plan to breed the platies at all so they are in my aquarium with all the other fish. The fry have survived in amongst the plants for a few days now.
I can't remove them from the tank becuase they are so small I keep losing sight of them, I'm just hoping they won't get eaten!!

Is there anything specific that I need to do to help them survive?? It is essential to move them or will this stress them to much? Do I need special foods etc.

I haven't had any previous experiance of breeding live bearers before!!

Thanks

There quite easy to catch if you remove plants and ornaments.
They will survie if there plenty of plants and ornaments in the tank.
They will live off the food you feed the other fish.
Baby brimestrimp.

The best chance of survival you can give them is to move them to another tank or
purchase a breeding net (which I don't find very successful).

Failing that just provide dense plant growth wich they can hide in, although there will
still be a small survival rate.

You can feed them crushed flake food, liquid fry food or newley hatched brine shrimp.
It is important to feed them little and often at this crucial growout stage.

In future you may want to isolate the female in a seperate, smaller breeding tank.

Yeah theres alot of plants in the tank that they are living in, which is another reason why it is hard to get them because I can't pull the plants out as they are firmly rooted into the substrate.
I'll get some Liquifry tomorrow.

Next time I'll definately be more prepared. As stupid as it sounds I wasn't actully sure if she was pregnant or just a fat fish. Ive never had any fish breed before without any encouragement so I wasn't expecting it at all!!

Livebearers breed like rabbits, the female can storm sperm for months so dosn't always need to be in with a male platy.
I would bother with the liquidfry stuff it mess tank water up.
Variety of frozen foods and veg and they will come on leaps and bounds.
Just crush some flakes up.

Ok sounds good, will go with the crushed flakes and frozen foods as thats what i usually feed anyway.

At least I'll know for next time!!

Thanks for advice

Your tank will be full of platys soon.
When my platys had babies I fetched them up in another tank, then gave them to the lfs, or you will be overun with them.
Good luck.

Yeah!! I was actully given the original platies from my friend who was over run at the time!! Seems i might be in the same situation. It will be interesting to see how they look when they've grown.

try and find as much as u can because i sat there 4 aboyt 1 hour and i found 5 but one got eaten. i put them in a net breeder and when i was cleaning my tank i found 4 died fry -_-
