thanks for replies. only had mum dad and other female guppie in tank .also some tetras but they are really little. it is in a breeder net which is why im keen to let it out , feel cruel in case its lonely. feed it quite a lot , even thought of putting my tiny neon in with it but is that cruel taking it away from its mate or might it even scare the baby?

I don't think guppies get all that "lonely." Tetras do however. From what you've said about it having a "mate" you sound like you only have two. Neon tetras don't have mated pairs, they school. They need groups of at least six of the same species to feel happy.

Anyway, if your fry is big enough none of the fish can take it down in one swallow, you should be fine. Guppies don't eat their own fry as much as mollies, swordtails, or platys, so there's a chance even if it is little it might survive.

If not, you'll have plenty more on the way.

Is the guppy fry actually eating the food?
