:/ Hi all I just thought i would tell u this as it may happen to u it's rare I'm Guessing but it did happen and it's True

Over the last week i had 10 fish die i thought it was just me as i was only new to the fish keeping thing so i tried all the things everyone who had fish b4 told me to do and they where still all dieing however but it was weird as they where dieing one at a time and all different size see i thought that it might of been the small ones first then the big ones but no it did not seem to mater and most of the fish had no signs of sickness so I'm trying everything i can think off but nothing work then now all my fish have gone :( :-( I notice a air bubble in the tank that looks like a little floating Silver bead but it half way in the tank water and it as if it's just suspended there I'm like weird  so i get my net and try to pop it nothing it dose not pop so i try again and still nothing it just moves from side to side 3 time was the charm it pops ok so today i go out to cheek on my snails which is all i have left and i look at water level u see i have about 4cm b4 the water reaches the lid of the tank and on top of the water there is a baby funnel web spider crawling on the water service so I take it out with my net and show my dad he's like well what he said i wont repeat so it look like A baby funnel web spider was killing my fish :( :-( :/ Away if u have any thoughts please tell me

I dunno. How long was the tank set up before the fish got stuck in? How large is it? How many, and what kinds of fish are in it? Do you have test readings in ammonia, nitrate, nitrite or have any reason for sudden pH swings? Is your tank cycled, if so, how did you do it? I'm guessing your tank is uncycled and the fish are dying from ammonia & nitrite spikes.

I did everthing was normal so the death of my 10 fish was mysters then i found the baby funnel web it was about 1cm i have a 20Liter tank my fish were: 1 betta 2neons 1 sward tail 4 guppys 1molly 1black tail shark but as i said there all daed now

i really dont think the spider did that, i think your tank was way over stocked 20l is about 5 gallon?????

think ammonia and nitrites killed your fish IMO.

pretty sure baby (or adult) funnel webs can't swim underwater....a fish would have to go right into its reach to be bitten by it, would'nt it? and funnel webs build funnels in the ground, so i reckon the baby funnel web would just be wanting to get out of the water.....
Not trying to say you're wrong, because you saw it and i didn't, but it does sound pretty strange....
How long had you had the fish in the tank before this happened?

Please give me the information I asked for. 90% it was ammonia spike however, and not funnel web spiders. Read the topic on fishless cycling in new to the hobby section.

though i have just searched the thing, it does seem that funnel webs like water, and are often found in pools, having fallen in. the can survive in water for some hours, 20+ is one figure i have seen. they breath air trapped in their body hairs. this also gives them buoyancy, though they cant swim, they can regulate their level in the water.

how about this? if the spider had bitten one of the fish, is it possible that some of he toxin, may have leached into the water? their venom is powerful stuff. or if the spider struck at say a plant or an ornament.

Hi All i'm sorry to say i dont rember my tank readings as affter i found the spider i started from scrach with my tank and I doing a fish less cycel this time around on the posablty it was not the spider but I was still shoked to see a spider

I have read all facts on this site that i can find so hopefully this time my fish will live as to my tank size it's

To convert 20 liters (L) into gallons (g), multiply by 0.26412, like this:
20 liters (L) × 0.26412 = 5.2824 gallons (g). I hope that helps i found this on a converting site http://www.webmath.com/k8metric.html

ok thanx for all the help and opions Ash from Australia
