Baby Fry ...

After what's felt like the longest pregnancy and giving up waiting, thinking that the girls were just well fed, my 2 huge females have started having the fry ... 1 girl, last week, gave me 9 that we caught, a few others got spotted but we never found them again, I guess they became lunch! The other girl was in labour yesterday, with a fry hanging out her tube for a while, she's had 4 so far, with another 2 I spotted about 5 minutes ago but they are too good at hiding!!

How long can she continue having fry? A day? A few days? The last count we have is 13, with that 2 hiding.

It is normally all over in anything from 2 to about 5 hrs.... havent seen any go beyound that (unless there are complications)... If you can see 13 of the fry, chances are that there could be up to 20/25....(the fry are experts at hiding) If it is Platies you're talking about, They normally deliver anything from about 25 to abot 60 fry - depending on their age/size.... on average I'd say about 40.

Sorry I should have said ... Its guppy's!

I've just caught another 1, and the other is still hiding. They really are masters at hiding in the tank, I wouldnt have known we had fry had there not been 1 sitting on the rock, I caught that the first night, was the first ever fry, the following day we caught another 8. Yesterday we caught 4 and I just caught 1 this morning, and another 1 to find. Who knows how many more are lurking in there somewhere!!
