So My pair mated they had eggs both watched over the eggs everything was just great in the Acara family. Then the fry hatched yesterday. Things were ok they both were watching over the tiny fry. But later on in the day I saw the parents lip lock and get into a bit of a fight. Today the male is pale and looks awful. He can not go any where near the nest because the mother will attach him. So now only the female is watching the eggs and the male swims around all freaked out.

Maybe the male wanted to spawn again and the female said HELL NO. Now they are not on good terms.

It was fun watching the 2 tend to the nest but now it's just sad. Like a broken home. where the mom has full custody and the father is a bum. The mother is really aggressive toward the male if he comes anywhere near the nest she goes after him.

The female is still showing her dark beautiful breeding color. The male is pale and sad looking. He does not even look like the same fish.

What happend to their happy family?

hehe fishes 'ey :p?

Just hold out for a while, might just be a slight falling out :(

Over protective mother syndrome. Poor guy. Things may settle again, if not, you may be best off moving him to another tank.

i cant stop reading this and laughing at the last line

What happened to their happy family?
so sweet :)

hopefully he will woo her back with money and a nice new coconut cave ;)

Who would have thought fish could have such drama in there life. I hope he can win her back too. I will let you know if they patch things up.

yeah i had something like this happen except the male in my situation was a women hater lol... beat her to shreds in one night then i saved her in the morning.

So I was dropping some food in right before lights out so my Pleco would have something to eat. Homer and Marge came out to grab some and they met face to face. This time Homer did not run off right away. They looked at each other and kind of slowly danced around eachother. Homers color changed back to his happy bright color BUT not for long. Homer ended up running off. It was like Marge was thinking about taking him back.. I think they will work it out in the end.

Here are the 5 day old babies.

Up date

Turns out dad has turned on the family. He has been ok picking them off. What a jerk. If marge does take homer back I hope the next batch goes better. I only have about 16 fry left :(

Another update. I saved one fry he is in the breeding trap safe from dad. Since no fry are left marge and homer are back at it. I think they will spawn again next week. I hope dad does not turn on the family again.

Aww sorry to hear that, seems Mum was right to keep Dad away.

You maybe best off removing the fry as soon as they become free swimming, have you a small tank you could easily raise themself in?
