Hi this morning i find 3 babys mollys. i caught 2 of them and they are in my breeding net. i feed them really small of normal fish food and now my big fish is pecking the net. will they try and get my babys as well. also is there any grow food i can get for them. i think i have got more in there but i cant catch them. Thanks for your help from claire xx

You can get Liquifri or the powdered fry food from fish shops,

They should be ok in the net just keep and eye on waste food going funny in it. :good:

Grats on the babies....I miss having livebearers

Hi how long does my baby fish stay in the breeding net for. and when do i change my water and filter. thanks

Till there big enough not to fit any of your other fishes mouth...

You should be doing weekly w/c's and seeing as you have fry you should really be doing more then 1 w/c a week.

You don't need to change your filter? If your on about the filter media, this shouldn't need changing unless it's really falling to bits otherwise just give it a quick rinse in the water you take out of your tank :good:

hi i havent clean my filter for 3 weeks and i think it needs cleaning now. but im afriend of the babys really. i will only take a little bit of water awaya anyway and do it a bit fast

Just do a 1/4 water change squeeze the filter pads in the old tankwater a couple of times then put back in the filter :good:

Fry release a hormone that stunts the growth of other fry/fish to help them get bigger faster than the others, lots of small water changes can make a huge difference.

Okay thanks for that. i dont know if you know how long i can keep my babys in the net for? plus if they got fins already how old will they be? i also got 7 in my breeding net and i cant find anymore and she is still fat. thanks for you help

If possible put them in another tank to grow. If you can't you'll have to wait till they are big enough not to be eaten or release them at night and let them integrate into the system naturally.

No i havent got another tank. but i will wait until they are big okay. plus i dont want to feed them 3 times a day im doing 2 times a day is that enough is it.

Is your fish net inside the actual aquarium? Then it's ok. If you want to be sure they all grow big enough to survive among other fishes, keep them in the net for at least 4 weeks. Baby mollies should be fed 5 times a day at first, actually, with tiny, tiny amounts of food...

I've had like 5 different sets of baby mollies during last few months, and I've had something like 50 of them growing big and strong. I've sold the most of them though since I can't keep that much, but I have a different, 45 litre tank for growing baby fish.

yeah they are in the net and only 3 have fins and the others havent yet. so i will still give them baby food at the moment. i have got 7 in my net andi cant see anymore but she is fat agin tho. when do i feed them with normal fish food then? i will keep them in the net for a while until they are bigger. i feed mine twice a day at the moment because i been told do it that wayby a man in the pub that he used to breed loads for him self.

breeder nets are a good idea till they get bigger,it also makes it much easier to feed them. I feed my babies on crushed up powdery tropical flake food from birth.

Hi Guys i brought 2 mollies.
1 male and female.

couple months later -she gave birth to ~40babies
but they looked premature.

and all died within 24hrs.
i was pretty heartbroken about it, and wonder what went wrong.

And what sort of things i need to think about in future.

i'd appreciate any advice. :)

thank you
