Baby Fighter!

when will i need to transfer them to the other tank start feeding them?
I've noticed little white critters moving in the tank, some are worm like and some look light diaphina(sp) are these inforsioa(sp)
Just been watching them and over the course of the day they have been getting more independant and swimming back up on their own :)

^^ Yea there are some huge tanks on here, I've got a 2ft 60L a 3ft 70L and a 4ft 200L

really want some more of the 3 footers as they are only a fiver from my LFS

sorry to go off topic, but man some of these aquariums people have are huge.

What????

Seconded ... where did that come from... this tank is likely to be big because the spawning tank needs to be large to house the hundreds of fry

I had those little white worms they are harmless even though at one point they made me very nervous! once they are free swimming Dad can be removed, but first how long have they been hatched for now?

I've had the white ones before too....freaked me out at first. I think they are planaria worms and are harmless unless you really get overun by them. The other things sound like cyclops which again are harmless.

You can start feeding the fry usually about 3 -4 days after hatching, as they will live off their yolk sacs for the first few days.

No need to transfer any of them for a while yet. We usually leave it until they are over a month old before moving any.

what about the male? ive got no where for him to go as it was his house lol

unless i use the 70L for him and keep the fry in the 60L?

He could go in the 70 litre if he's on his own in there. After the stress of spawning and being awake for so long with no rest, I wouldn't subject him to the added stress of tank mates.

great thanks Netty He'll be on his own and i bought some play sand from argos today so im going to set it up for him tomoz.

well... the babies are now swimming around and the male is now on his own as his tank has settled!

Here are the babies! :D
i've counted about 20-30 darting around the tank catching food!
This is a small group of them(5)

Jake

Looking good so far Jake :good: I can just make out a little face peering out from the plants on the right lol

They are so cute! I love it when they dart around like that!

its ace they look like silver bubbles bobbing around the tank then one goes for and then the others do the same...

I'm not sure but there are tonnes of tiny bubbles collecting together like mini nest.... can they do that at their age?

Not at this age. They'll only start taking their first breath from the surface at around 3 weeks old.

Ah right s do they use their gills like normal fish or are they just good at holdding their breath lol

That was my main concern with them not being able to get to the surface and drowning :(
