I went out the house this morning and put the female into a breeding trap, when i got home she was under the cup with the male getting their freek on!!

only caught one set of wrapping but i can say it was really cool!
also she was helping collect the eggs.

Now..... do i leave the male in there or do i move the eggs to the 70L?

the female is back in the 200L with the 4 baby guppies from the 70L.

If they are collecting the eggs wait till they have finished wrapping take out the female leave the male for about 2 days he will carry on caring for the nest even after the fry hatch he will collect them and put them back in the nest. You should leave him in there until the fry are free swimming. Of course if he looks like he's munching you should remove him

Thanks guys im not staying at the house at the mo but will be there about 12 ish tomoz

Hes got a baby moniter with him lol using the light on it so he can keep an eye on the little nippers

Good work hope its bright enough he'll need a light on 24 hours a day and do not feed him, or he will remember he's hungry and eat the eggs!

Its general rule of thumb not to :good:

I know some people continue to feed but we have never done that whilst the male is looking after his nest.

i looked at the eggs last night and they have a little line coming off them.... is this the tail forming?

Bless Blue he was picking eggs up nonstop .... everytime he put one back he knocked another out and was going up and down for ages trying to catch them all!

This is the first time ive tried to raise eggs, I've only ever bred livebearers:)

yeah those are the tails of your fry you'll see them bobbing around soon and then dad will have his work cut out for him!

Congrats.....you got yourself some wrigglers :good:

They are awsome! Can't believe how fast they are already i think i got about 30 of them.
Some are sitting in the riccia and bobbing to the surface and some are going mental and swimming around the nest before daddy gets hold of them and puts them back in bed!

God knows how he keeps an eye on them in the wild every time he puts one up 2 fall down and he is going up and down non stop.
I can see why you need shallow water now,

Jake

ill try and post some pics up!

It is amazing to watch isn't it :D

We had a male that used to round them up from all over the tank only to have another dozen pass him on the way back to the nest with them

It's great news that he's being such a good dad :good:

how long can the babies be away from the water surface as he keeps missing a few for about 5 mins but when i come back they are gone?

Got some pics!

He's a very protective dad!

Don't worry about them too much.....just let Dad get on with doing his job at rounding them up. There will always be a few stragglers so nature will take it's course. You only want the healthiest to survive and as upsetting as it is, there will be some that don't make it.
