Hi, I have some 16-week-old baby axolotls to rehome.

Please be sure to read all of this listing carefully.

These axolotls measure between 5cm and 7cm from nose to tail and are eating frozen bloodworm, 3mm sinking pellets and the occasional tiny earthworm.

A few facts about these adorable creatures

Axolotls can live for up to 20 years in captivity
Axolotls grow to around 30cm in length.
A 2ft tank is only big enough for 1 full grown axolotl.
Although they originate in Mexico, axolotls require cold water between 16 and 20 degrees Celsius.
Axolotls love to eat live earthworms, which just happen to be the best food to give them.
Axolotls shouldn't be kept with any other animals or fish (except other axolotls).
Axolotls don't need company.
Axolotls will eat gravel and even small pebbles and these can be fatal, so sand is the best substrate.
Axolotls like to hide if they feel stressed so they need rocks, plants and other things to hide behind.
Axolotls don't like bright light.
Axolotls are sensitive to chlorine and chloramine in tap water.
You cannot accurately sex axolotls until they are about 1 year old.

I'm often asked if axolotls make good, safe pets for children. I have no hesitation in answering "YES...BUT!"

YES (because)

They have no teeth.

They are quiet.

They don't smell.

They're pretty undemanding.

They're cheap to feed.

They are inquisitive and will interact.

(They're especially good at begging for worms).

BUT

They shouldn't be handled.

They can swallow anything smaller than their own head that might fall into the tank.

They need regular 15 - 20% water changes.

(They produce a lot of waste)

They need a tiny amount of chemical dechlorinator in their fresh water.
