Well, my Bristlenose in on his 3rd brood in 4 months now, and after the last batch left home I discovered a horrid problem! A couple of days after they left, I did a filter change, and to my horror, there were 13 bristlenose babies inside the canister.

I fished them out and put them back in the tank, but I suspect they got sucked in again. I have an Eheim External filter. Obviously I know that I could put tights over the end, but then the detrius wouldnt get removed, so what else could I do or use. The new batch are hatching as we speak and I dont want the same to happen again.

Any ideas?

Julia

If you can you could turn down the flow on your filter.

I use pre filter for ponds cut about 1cm thick to cover the intake, it allows smaller detritus through and catches the big stuff. Hope that helps good luck with the babies.

Maybe you can get one of those special plastic container thingies to attach inside your tanks. You can put the babies in there to keep them seperate.

If you can't turn the flow down use some mesh.

Use a "pre-filter"

Cut a hole in a filter sponge, and put it over the filter intake. detritus should collect, but the sponge has enough surface area it shouldn't block flow like it does with pantyhose.

a round sponge from a fluval filter is your best bet i use on my tanks when it gets a bit dirty just pull off and give it a rinse if you have not got a siv on the end use a cable tie to close on end off

cheers dane
