just trying to work out my cost on my tanks really, so seeing as heaters are always on and off it doesn't really help!!

Depends on the heat in the room, at my mums, her heater is hardly ever on, here at home I would say that my heaters are on for ten mins in each hour, more for the upstairs tanks as I only have the heating on up there for a few hours a day (just call me scrooge).

Hiya,

Saw something about it somewhere. Clever git had also worked out a little chart for wattage of heater, against capacity of tank using average ambient temp aswell. Nerdy git was waffling about average heat losses from surface area of glass.....blah blah blah.

I'll go digging, but I think its all on the fave's on PC that I put to bed last October.

I'll try digging it out over the weekend, who knows, it might even boot up!

well right now my room is 65.1. not sure the temp of the room with my big tank in.

although during the day up here it can get bloody hot, hot enough for my viv thermostat set at 84F to turn off and stop heating!!

and during mid summer it's quite literally an oven up here, then winter coldest room in the house, aint i lucky!!

i guess i should beable to save on heating when i move all my tanks in the same room, with almost 2000litres of heated water it can't lose temp to quick.

LOL your tanks will be heating the room, after all, thats all a radiator is.

All the more reason to keep the room temp stable. My old tanks (heaters) were forever on & off when they where in the doorway.

A move away from the draught must have saved me a few quid over the last six months.

Hell, get some full size tropical plants, add some wildlife noises and you'll have your own tropics....

Perfect in my opinion. Escape from the better half .

Paul, if you can send me as many details as possible, I could sort out a Spreadsheet for you.

I'll take you up on that jon!! PM sent.

oh and on that site link they reakon a heater is on for the average of 5hrs a day but i suppose thats on US temps

my heater doesn't seem to come on in the day, i think the lights heat the tank in the day, plus our room sometimes gets up to the tank temp (75F)
