I have decided against it. There is always something or the other to purchase for the tank anyways, why waste on the lid.

webmoose, i have recently got the Eheim 3581 auto feeder, after reading so many positive reviews for it. I havent tried it yet, but will lt you know how it is. The cheapest i can find it for online is around £29.
