i have recently acquired a legit marimo ball (not java moss), split in half, and tied some down with fishing line to the top of my bog wood in hopes it would attach itself.

i have seen others doing this successfully in the forum and was wondering approximately how long (if at all) they will independently attach themselves to the wood? i could not see any fishing lines or w/ever in everyone else's posted pics and saw no real mention as to how long the algae requires to take hold.

i have a low tech setup w/ no c02 and i understand these are relatively slow growing.

any tips/tricks for attaching? *(or rather time estimations?)*

thanks

my understanding is that these are 'free roaming' and actually obtain their ball shape from being on the move. They dont naturally attach themselves to anything.

Correct.
However in the aquarium you can secure them to an object by pulling the marimo ball apart and using a hair net to hold it down to the object.

i was researching a little more into this and google claims that there are three different forms including free floaters, ball forms, and attached to rocks.

does everyone use these hair net things or has anyone actually attached the algae?

You have to be careful if using a hair net. Fish can become trapped in it.
