My gravel is actually a bunch of tiny rocks approxiamately 1/2"-1" in diameter. Is it possible for me to attach my java moss to the rock and have it attach? How would I go about doing it?

I'm not sure that java moss will grow attached to a rock, mate. It grows really well under low light attached to bogwood. Tie it on with some cotton thread and by the time the tread rots it should be growing well.

you might want to reconsider it will be very difficult for maintain if you do that.
