Atman Heater - Dont Think Its Working

just purchased an atman heater - and dont know much about heaters!
when its in the water should the springy things light up to be a red colour?
and do these heaters go on a cycle? with the on light going on and off? how long is this cycle

i really dont think its heating my tank for some reason

Yes, when the red light is on means the tank is being heated. From what i remember when my power went out and the temp did drop significanlty, the heater didn't kick on and stay on, it came on then off.

How long has the heater been in your tank? Also, try turning it up a little, that will help it heat up. I've got a heater that is supposedly calibrated where you turn the dial to where you want the temp, but i've got one that is very off (don't remember what brand it is)
