Hey peeps

At what point should you be looking at euthanising a fish? I know this will be open a can of worms but I have a fish that I dont want any untoward suffering...

The fish in question is a hairy puffer and he has been "one of those" fish from the start bless him. He has been upside down for a good week and had spates of it prior to this. I have tried every method under the sun of burping him and now also on another recommendation trying salt bath just in case. The problem is he is unable to eat and has to wedge himself under ornaments as he ends up at the surface. When I got the hairies they both had to be burped when they came from the store (one went back as she was too aggressive) but I have had problems since. Part of this ones problem is he likes to sleep near the top and have witnessed him take a short breath before. So either trapped air or trapped bacterial gas but no luck in expelling it..When is it best to stop torturing the poor animal and give them a sleep? Sorry if I do sound blunt but I have had a lot of heartache with him over the last week or so and he is such a sweetie. If it means just to keep trying then I shall but just need some thoughts..

It sounds to me like he is suffering, and I am against animal cruelty, so if that means, putting him down - It sounds the best option x

I have no idea what burping a fish entails, or if you had a lot of help and advice from people on here regarding how to remedy the situation, but i dont believe in letting them suffer either.

if its a fish that you really deeply care about, i suppose go on with salt baths, but if it is just a run of the mill fish, and is really suffering, id just humanely euthanize it.
