After several false starts over the past few weeks i acctualy have a tank full of water in my room!!!

I`ve decided to go for a sand substrate and although i spent most of the day washing the sand the watter has still gone cloudy, so i`m going to wait untill tomorrow before turning the filter on so it allows the sand to settle a litte.

I`ve got my plants in a bucket to keep them untill the water settles enough for them....

I`m so excited in a nother 3-4 weeks i`ll have fishys :D :D :D

I set up a tank with sand 3 days ago and its almost crystal clear now, I did a 50% water change yesterday which helped but I had the filter running straight away.

I washed it for AGES but it still goes cloudy for a while.

What are you going to stock your tank with?

i filter mine rigth away too after adding sand. The fister media became very yellowy with the sand dust, so i just rinsed it before i started the cycling.

I`m hoping to stock,

a pair of golden angels a pair of black angels and a pair of koi angels

along with some corys a plec or maybe two and possibly some mollys

I`ve just set the filter running now

your tank will cycle better if you add fish but only a couple of the hardier ones, also add something that will get your filter working like cycle. v always added goldfish to my tank for the first 2-3 weeks to get the filter moving.

wont angels kill mollys??

not 100% sure i know people who`ve kept angels and mollys together wuite happily... and some who havent

Once the waters settled i`m going to do a fishless cycle, its far to cloudy at the moment for anything, i`ve even got my plants in a bucket of water..

Iv been told this is a great way to start the tank off,. take away the heater and add goldies.

i`m definately going for the fishless cycle as soon as the water clears so i can put my plants in

Then what happens to the poor goldfish

Fishless cycling is the way to go

Just been and bought my first fish ( no its not going in the tank just yet my friend is looking after him for me) i saw a albino golden plec in the LFS and i wanted one because i knew they`d sell out before my tank was cycled

just got in today and my tank looks crystal clear,

although there are some "cloudy" lines on the glass where i poured the water and the watter stopped untill i poured the next bucket in

and also some "crud" floating on the surface i`m asuming this is from the sand. i keep skiming it off the top and then waiting for it all to settle again before skiming again
