Hiya peeps

Been out the game a while and looking to start a 5 gallon tank for a betta, as it has been a fair while need assistance to get a nice tank set up. I am still looking around tank wise but looking at a Fluval Chi - in the other thread there was pros and cons but keeping this tank in mind (at least the size) looking to get:

1. Fluval Chi-19 litre or 25
2. Extra Filter pads
3. Heater - can someone please recommend good compact 25 watt heater (believe that is the size I need?) willing to spend more to get small as possible and take up less room
4. Gravel/Sand - for this type of tank could someone recommend a good substrate?
5. Water Test Kit
6. Cycling Media - anyone in Dorset are or able to post that could help boost my cycling process once ready to roll? Can pay for postage needs etc
7. Decoration - if anyone can recommend some ideal decs for this would be grateful.
8. Lid - will buy the adapted lid for chi (if going for this tank) to stop jumper and also help aid condensation etc
9. Food - Hikari pellets still the good stuff or has there been developments since?

10. Fish! I would like to get a show off boy as this will be my only tank, I wont be able to rescue old breeders or pet store pups anymore, no MTS either. Anyone recommend in UK for a beauty boy? I do prefer recommendations over anything.

Please add if anything missed or also tips :)

EDIT lets include a thermometer here as well - again any good ones?
Even forgetting basics - siphon, dechlorinator

I use an Aqueon pro-heater, it's long, but, I keep it running the length of the tank at the bottom and hide it behind plants. Never had a problem with it yet

Hi, ive just set up my 25 litre fluval chi, i brought the fluval 25watt heater and lid from "shallow aquatics" at a good price.
Live plants beats fake ones by a mile in my opinion because the fluval chi led lights are low power (do light the tank nicely though) ive got java fern, anubias and moss ball.
Also made a black background with card and double sided sticky tape, looks much better and hides all wires.
Hope this helps

Okay peeps, pretty much everything has arrived (well except for the main thing like the tank though meant to be arriving latest tomorrow). As everything is pretty much here could anyone help out by sparing some mature media from an establish tank to kick start my cycle? Will cover costs to post etc :)

So yeah tank to arrive and then set it all up and order plants as last thing!

thanks pablothebetta. I saw the sticky about lcoal donors but there is only one for my area and suspect they have moved abroad by now..

hiya danele! Well it was meant to arrive this week but looking at tracker hopefully monday, everything else is here now and ready to go *big thumbs up*
