i have 10.6 CM of stocking left in my 60 litre tank and for my final fish i want something out of the ordinary, since you all have more knowledge than me can you name me some unique looking fish that would fit in my 60 litre tank? (preferbly nothing that needs to be in a group, wont fit)

Thanks in Advance

Hi
sorry to say but IMO you are already way overstocked
The best method by far for stocking a tank is the "1 inch per gallon rule"

with a 60 litre tank you have just under 16USG and so should really be stocking to around 16 inches of fish.
atm however you have over double that stocking

10 x danios = 20inches
4 x corys = 10inches
3 x male guppy = 4.5inches
= 34.5 inches

Not very inventive but how about a SAE (Siemese Algae Eater)

I have had one for yonks. Usually under an inch when in LFS but grow to about 3" Hard working when small but will prefer flake when older. I had 3 but they squabbled so I took 2 back and he's great.

*EDIT* I would take out a few Danios though first

here's mine, not a great picture...just took it fot you

Thank you Doresy and i appreciate that you just took a picture just o show what one looks like, and i think it looks pretty neat i'll still want more suggestions thought because eif its a rare kind i wont find it where i am located

i use the 1" per gallon for the first 3 months and then over the course of a month + i increase it to 1cm a litre which is quite adequate for mature tanks.
thinkfish is the biggest load of bull ive ever read stocking wise. 1cm a litre is the way to go for a mature tank. and 1" per gallon for a new tank

what about 2 rams or 2 honey gouramis

i know your trying to help but i don't need it the fish seem happy the water is clean and there is still plenty of room i should know im staring right at the tank. but as soon as something goes wrong with the water then i would know whats wrong.

but thanks anyway

hi, don't worry it was just a suggestion (I'll settle for the thank-you, bit rare around here :shifty: )

It seems people are on your back about the 'rule of thumb' fish-water ratio's. Funny how one minute people throw that one out the window then bring it back into play when it suits

However, those Danios are your problem really as you do have 10 and they are blimmin lively. If (and it's only my opinion) you cut them down to 5-6 problem about space in the water goes away.

yes danios are very lively and prefer a lot of space. maybe neons would be better. but make sure your tank is atleast 4 months old, as they prefer a mature tank

i'd feel bad giving fish away and i don't know how to. do i just bring them back to the store? or get a tank just for them :p

yes I'm definately one of the 'thinkfish is rubbish' school of thought, i've seen some terrible stocking suggestions from that site in the past.

the general 'rule of thumb' that i work to is in the first 6 months of the tanks life you keep to around 1" of fish per gallon, then after that you can increase it to 1.5 or even 2" per gallon providing you have edxcellent filtration and keep on top of the maintenance.

also you should take into account the bio load of the fish, danio's are low waste producers so while they're actually a bit over, i just count them as 1" of fish each whereas something like a platy which is a similar length fish actually produces much more bio load on the tank and should be counted as 2/3".

however this just gives a rough idea of how many fish you can fit in, far more important is to ascertain weather the fish you have are actually suitable for the tank, and the danio's unfortunately are not. While they are just small fish they are incredibly active and do need a decent volume of water to swim around in, for a group of 10 of them I'd recommend nothing smaller than a 30 gallon tank.

So if you want to keep them then I'd recommend you upgrade your tank or just get a second one, alternatively you should take them back to the fish shop. Don't expect your money back on them but they may give you a few quid of store credit.

For me I would get the 30 gal tank, I'd then count your stocking as this

10 x danios = 10"
4 x corys = 8"
3 x male guppy = 4.5"
Total - 22.5"

So that then means you've room to increase your stocking by some way, as the tank would be immature still I'd just build up to the 30" at first, I'd recommend 2 more cories as they really do like being in a decent sized group, then you could go with something like the honey dwarves as suggested above giving you this

10 x danios = 10"
6 x corys = 12"
3 x male guppy = 4.5"
2 x honey dwarf gouramis = 6"
Total - 32.5"

And then after a few months you could add a school of tetras, rasboras or something like that comfortably and maybe a bristlenose plec or a couple of siamese flying foxes something like that.

:good:
