That's really nice! Shame about the filter looming in the corner. An external filter with some glass fittings would finish that off nicely with an inline heater :D
I do like B. pugnax

Well, I'm in the process of replacing it with a U3, which is slightly less obtrusive, but honestly, I can't be doing with an external. I prefer the massive lump of a 4+ to the Eheim 2213 on my 4ft, to be honest, because at least you get a decent flowrate and it doesn't take half an hour plus of faffing around to try and clean it.

The cupanus are getting a bit narky with each other, if I can charge my camera I'll try and get some photos. They're mouth locking and everything.

its good but it would be awesome with a background

what is it with you and backgrounds?

looks awesome Oohfeeshy, be good to see it when its grown up.

Thanks. I've just ordered more plants so hopefully they'll arrive at some point soon. More crypts, some moss and some Cyperus helferi, which I'm sure will look all spangly to start with and then die because of my appalling lack of bothered-ness about plants, but there y'go. Filter's been switched to the somewhat less obtrusive U3, the crypts moved so they're actually positioned rather than dumped and cleaning has occurred. The brown crypts will be byesies when I've got something else to put them in.

so why bother with a 2213 they are old hat get a eheim pro they take less than 1/2 hour to clean every 6 months better than cleaning a internal every 4 weeks

I couldn't agree more! the Ecco Pro externals are a piece of cake. Even easier are the Fluval 105/205/305 etc externals are so easy to fiddle with and not flood the place or die trying to prime that it's a sin not to have one

i just think inless a fish tank is separating 2 rooms, it absolutly needs a background, its the easiest way to 100% improve the way a tank looks... its kinda like a bathroom with out a door.... a bathroom isnt complete with out a door, a fish tank isnt complete with out a background

Pff, I'm a poor student, can't afford a fancy filter. It's not like I bother to clean the 2213 much anyway, I think I've only ever done it about four times since I bought it... Not that it doesn't need it mind (more dirt than media? I think so) but now that the tank only has the two cats, and is also filtered by a Fluval 4+ and a Fluval 2+, it's not like it really matters. As long as the water is flowing through it, fine by me.

Background, no ta. Firstly, I'm pretending I'm one of the cool rimless braceless optiwhite cats (yes, I realise the tank has the black trim on it. Somebody put it back on when I was away and I didn't actually notice for a while). The wall behind it is now white- bonus! Secondly, while said wall was being made white while I was away, it got white paint splashed on it. Which will show up if a background is applied. Thirdly, I don't want one. So nyer. Once the background plants are in, you'll be able to see less of the wall anyway.
