Argh! Swordtail Gave Birth!

I have 2 swordtails and one was pregnant but i wasn't expecting her to give birth before Bonnie! she wasnt even that big, just had a cute little belly!

But low and behold i go and check on my other guppys fry and i saw a little fry outside of the box and panicked! thinking it must of somehow jumped out! but then more and more kept on appearing! so it was my golden swordtail which gave birth =]

there are about 15 so far so cute!!

oh and i have a problem as well if anyone can help me! my elite mini filter for my little tank has gone kaput! and i dont know what to do all of my fry [about 30] are in the breeding trap [the 2 in one] what can i do?! =[

Congratz! They are very cute. ABout your filter, I'd say try cleaning it completely and then do a water change.

If it is a Hagen Elite filter, they come with a lifetime warranty. Go to their website and file a complaint. Don't let them give you any crap about needing your receipt. They replaced mine and all I had to pay for was shipping to them.

Congrats HCpetraitis. Swordtail fry are smaller than guppy fry even if born the same day. They sure are cute though. If you can salvage the media from your broken filter, it will give you some to use when the new parts come in. I would put it in any space available with good flow in the filter that is working. When the parts come in to fix your filter, it will give you some cycled media to use on the fry tank.

I've used large coolers or storage tubs for growing out fry before...would give them more room than the breeder. Even a clean 5 gallon bucket works. Just pop in a heater and a small sponge filter and you're good.

aye that's true! ive just gotta get this filter sorted but for now they should be okay, the guppys are probably nearly ready to go into the main tank =]
