Argh Decisions

I am still going to recommend a fishless cycle for the reason I stated above.

Just think of the mature filter media that she will have from one of her other filters as a "kick start" to the fishless cycling process.

A fishless cycle is by far, hands down, the more logical approach to this.

There is just no way to determine how much fish can safely go into a tank by looking at the size of the filter. For the well being of the fish, I stand firm with my previous recommendations, as a fishless is the best approach.

Fish Addict, yeah that's what i meant.. i would do a fishless cycle but its all to confusing for me as ive never done it before, anyway your spot on about the Rainbow fish there the 1st fish i thought of but then again ive never had any so i dont know much about them i also thought about Kribs as ive had them before but dont they spend most of there time at the bottom which is a problem because of the shark... Hmm maybe Goldenbarbs or do u think Angelfish could ate em?

while were on the subject I dont mean to hijack but when I upgrade tanks next week to a 3ft tank I will be using the same external filter and the same number of fish will be in the bigger tank, will I be okay just doing this because the only change will be the volume of water? thanks

As long as you still have a sufficient turn over rate still with the larger tank.

thanks fhm :) it should be okay its a tetratec ex600 and will be in a 106 litre tank, might have to add a small internal one to keeep the water moving about. thanks again for that :)

Yup, try to aim for at least 5 times turn over in one(1) hour.

Gold barbs will be fine. Kribs should be ok too, provided they're given some time to grow and that the shark is added last. The dwarf neon rainbows benefit from 40% weekly water change along with a diet high in vegetable matter (about 40%), they stay small too (5-7cm).

anyways back on the subject at hand have you considered 2-4 blue gouramis they dont get too big but are medium and the ones my LFS have hang up top the tank and mine do as well.

I'll proberly go for the Rainbow Fish as there really pretty i do water changes and feed my fish peas once a week anyway so that wont be a problem, Thanks!! :D..
