Are

but also considered as on oddball

An oddball is the term given to a fish that is unusual, large or rare.

Most oddballs are are typically larger and aggressive, its important to match aggression levals and size when housing these fish.

When looking to set up an oddball aquarium be sure to choose the largest aquarium that fits your budget, most oddball species require plenty of swimming space.

The main thing to remember when looking to add an oddball to your aquarium is DO YOUR RESEARCH as many people buy these fish only to find they can soon outgrow their aquarium and they can have a life expectancy of 20+ years!

I wouldn't use either term to describe the oscar by choice, too common for an oddball and I wouldn't say apt enough to be a predator (although technically I suppose it is - 'predator' I would say fits the description of say gars, knifefish, leaf fish etc).

I would consider them as South American Cichlids, I have never really known them as oddballs. But as a piscivore, they are predatory. Just not classed as much as some predators.

Hi catfish00 :)

If you asked this question because you were wondering which section of the forum to post about Oscars in, the best place would be in New World Cichlids.

:D
